The Centre for Heritage, Environment and Development (c-hed) is an institution functioning as the research and development wing of the Kochi Municipal Corporation, in the fields of  Urban Development and Governance, Environment, Tourism, Culture and Heritage. Sanctioned by the Government of Kerala and established in the year 2002 by the city administration, c-hed has been an integral part of the planning efforts and development aspirations of the Kochi Municipal Corporation. It has initiated many planning efforts and development projects for Cochin. c-hed, functioning as a unit responsible for co-ordinating major development projects and events; planning initiatives, international projects for the Kochi Municipal Corporation, has been playing the role of a knowledge partner and resource center for the city. It has been imparting  academic support for the budget preparation and economic planning of the city. 

AREAS OF FOCUS

Research Centre : To act as a research centre providing academic support in the process of Planning and Development of Cochin City.

Development : To act as the chief co-ordination agency for conceiving and preparing various development projects for the city and also to mobilize resources for the implementation of these development projects.

Heritage : Protection of heritage, its management, promotion of heritage-based tourism and related activities. To consolidate and encourage the distinct cultural heritage of Cochiities, Keralites and all other linguistic groups in India.

Environment : To envisage and implement various schemes focusing on the environment conservation of Cochin City; ensuring that the developmental activities do not impair the environment of Cochin City.

Tourism : To function as a catalyst to promote tourism in Cochin area and also to function as a planning body, for micro level tourism planning for Cochin area.
