Kochi Night Life Zone

The city’s dream of nightlife will take wings soon by the Kochi Municipal Corporation’s new project for proposing nightlife zones in Broadway, Subhash Park, Marine Drive, Foreshore Road, Durbar Hall and Park Avenue in cooperation with GCDA and District administration. These selected zones will be equipped with mobile food kiosks, promote socio-cultural activities, shopping facilities etc. With the setting up of the arrangements for nightlife, these zones will turn into major attractions within the city. As part of the project, it is planning to keep the Subhash Park open for families till midnight.

A meeting will be convened with the stakeholders and concerned authorities to explore the possibility of the project.

Broadway Makeover – MoU Signed with Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce

The Kochi Municipal Corporation and Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce signed a Memorandum of Association (MoU) for the maintenance and beautification of Broadway, one of the oldest and busiest trade centres in the city. As per the project, the Broadway will be spruced up with 52 ornamental lamp posts with lamp shades starting from Shanmugham Road to Canal Road, surveillance cameras and arches. Cast iron benches will also be installed on either side of the Broadway. In addition, the Broadway will be equipped with mobile food kiosks that functions from 9pm to 1pm.

Parking has always been the bane of the stretch. Hence parking has been given prime attention under the project.

The entire project is being coordinated by c-hed for the Kochi Municipal Corporation.

Kochi to be a Solar City soon!!!

The Master Plan for the Kochi Solar City project is ready which help the City to become the first energy efficient City in Kerala. The copy of the master plan was collected from the Deputy Director of International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) Shri. Sunandan Tiwari by the Hon’ble Mayor Shri.Tony Chammany at a function held in New Delhi. The master plan was prepared by ICLEI for the Kochi Municipal Corporation.

Kochi was one of the City selected from 60 cities under the Solar City project which was mooted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). The master plan is a comprehensive document detailing city’s present energy consumption in various sectors, energy demand forecasting and sector wise action plan. The project mainly aims at installing solar energy systems to power streetlights, garden lights, households, hotels, restaurants and major administrative offices. The master plan will be soon presented in the Kochi Municipal Corporation council for approval.

The entire project is being coordinated by c-hed for the Kochi Municipal Corporation.

Clean Destination campaign

As part of the Visit Kerala campaign of the Tourism Department, the Kochi Municipal Corporation, District Administration in association with the Kerala Travel Mart Society launched the Clean Destination project, aimed at making all tourist destinations clean and free of waste. The first phase of the project was commenced at Vasco da Gama square in Fortkochi on 2015 June 5th.

Photo 1Through this initiative, the Fortkochi would be made as a garden city. Dustbins, cameras, waste collection and disposal arrangements, toilets and sign boards will be constructed as part of this campaign in Fortkochi to ensure safety and hygiene. The beautification of public spaces in Fortkochi is also on the cards which will be carried out with the support of hotels and traders in the area.

Animal Birth Control – Anti Rabies Vaccination Programme

The Kochi Municipal Corporation launched the ambitious project ABC-ARV programme of Mission Kochi 15-8-15 to resolve the perennial issues of street dogs in the city by constructing a high-tech multispeciality veterinary hospital at Brahmapuram spending around 1.20 crores, which was inaugurated by the Minister of Urban Affairs Shri. Manjalamkuzhi Ali on May 28th, 2015. DSC_0661The ABC programme plans to sterilize around 4000 dogs in a year and bring down the number of stray dogs in the next four years. The air conditioned surgery room set up at the hospital has all the facilities including five surgery tables. Four veterinary surgeons and four assistants have been appointed specially for the hospital. The dogs are captured using pole net, and will be kept in custody overnight and surgery will be performed next day. For the easy identification of the vaccinated and sterilized dog, an ear notching would be made.

V.R Raju, Additional Secretary Smt. A.S. Anuja etc were present on the function.
