The geography of Cochin is unique to itself. The location of Cochin is such that is almost at par with the sea level. The Arabian Sea also influences the geographical features of this city. The area abounds in plains, rivers, estuaries, sea coast, islands and other types of natural features.Like other cities of Kerala the flora of Cochin is characteristically tropical;  heavy rainfall combined with moderate temperature.

Due to the tropical climate accompanied by heavy rainfall the city of Cochin is rich in various types of flora and fauna.The tidal mangrooves formation are special features of Cochin’s flora.

The c-hed had initiated a study on the flora and fauna of this urban agglomeration.
